I am writing to say a big 'thank you' to everyone at Holsworthy GC for their help in making our DCVLGA Flitch and Mixed Greensomes event so enjoyable last week. The feedback from those who took part has all be positive, with compliments about the state of the course, the starters, the spotters, the catering etc. In particular I would like to thank Lady Captain Jan for organising her team of helpers and for staying to the end to ensure things ran smoothly. Also thanks to Mike, Jacquie and the Pro for their help.
Please pass on my thanks to all concerned.
Two friends and I played at the course today and we have never felt so welcome at a club as we did today. From the moment we arrived in the car park and had a chat with a lady in the car parked next to ours, to the helpful members out on the course steering us in the right direction, to the Vets Captain enquiring after our round in the club house and the two friendly staff in the bar.
As part of a society, we have played at many courses around the County, but have not had such an enjoyable day’s golf as we did today – of course the weather did play its part as well. Unfortunately for us, Torquay is a little far to make regulars trips, but we will be sure to come back as soon as we are able.

I have been a member now for 10 years and each year the course has got better!!! All the "slitting" over the years on the fairways has certainly paid dividends and the course was open nearly all year, (only a few days closed when the really heavy rain beat us) a testament to the professionalism of the greenkeeper and his hardworking staff (Well done Kevin).
Played in the usual Vets Comp today and the greens have just been treated, rolled and spiked. Need some rain now, but not when I'm playing please! I have never seen the course look so well at this time of the year, and I am pleased that we have a lovely friendly club that will go from strength to strength under Mike's ownership.
Food was good last Monday with the new Chef (Dave) and things are really going in the right direction.
I look forward to many more years playing in such lovely surroundings and with really nice friendly golfers.

We moved to Holsworthy in 2011 and part of the plan was that I wanted to join a golf club but not one that was too stuffy or too fussy. Those are strange words to use for a golf club but golf at our level is a leisure pursuit and can be taken too seriously. Golf at HGC is great because it is fun, the people are good, the course is fantastic and I dare anybody not to be disappointed looking down the 12th on a beautiful day in summer! The new ownership of the club under Mike Bridgeman and others will take the place onto an even better level with improved catering facilities, events and more work on the course and clubhouse. You do not know what you are missing!

Having moved from Cheshire 4 years ago, I immediately went on the search for a new Golf Club to join. As a very keen golfer having held office at a members club, I was looking for a challenging (not too challenging!) course and, most of a friendly membership. I joined a nearby Golf Club which is a great course, but unfortunately did not offer the opportunity to join in and play friendly golf as well as in competitions. After a year, I left and discovered Holsworthy. I immediately felt welcome to join in with both roll-ups and competitions. That was 3 years ago and, although the past two seasons have seen a lot of rain, the course has at least been part open so that the swing could at least be kept going! This is a credit to the green-keeper and his staff as they have worked tirelessly to get the course drained and to keep it that way. If you are looking for the friendliest club in Devon, then look no further!
